Community Litter Pick

Cleaner Greener Borough

BD Group is a company at the heart of our community. They are proud to be based in Dagenham and want to give something back to their neighbours and to the local community by organising a monthly community litter pick. The first took place on Yew Tree Avenue at 2.30pm on Wednesday 9th November with Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council, Cllr Darren Rodwell. This is in support of the council’s campaign for a Cleaner, Greener Barking & Dagenham. The campaign calls on residents to do their bit to help create a cleaner and greener borough.

The council is asking residents to do their bit by following six simple steps to help keep our borough at its best:

  1. putting the right rubbish in the right bin
  2. recycling more at home
  3. getting rid of bulky waste responsibly
  4. keeping gardens clean and tidy
  5. reporting fly-tipping and neighbourhood issues
  6. going one step further – by getting stuck in at community litter-picking events or carrying out their own litter picks.

As a local business, owned by the council, BD Group is playing its part by organising a regular monthly litter pick, kicking off with one led by Leader of the Council Cllr Darren Rodwell. BD Group is proud of its connection to Barking and Dagenham and wants to play its part in making Barking and Dagenham Cleaner and Greener. We can all do our bit to take pride in our local area and to create a cleaner and greener borough for everyone to enjoy.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Darren Rodwell, said: “It’s really important that we all take pride in our neighbourhoods, I’m really pleased that BD Group are taking a lead on this front and I am pleased to join them today. It’s only by everyone coming together that we’ll be able to create a cleaner and greener borough for everyone to enjoy. We’re asking residents to carry out six simple steps - it’s all really easy stuff like putting the right stuff in each bin, getting rid of your bulky waste properly and recycling more at home. We’re asking you to keep your front garden clean and tidy and if you see things like fly-tipping, please report it to us.”

Andrew Pollard, Chief Executive of BD Group, said “Thanks to Cllr Rodwell for joining us on our first Litter pick today. We are proud of our connection to Barking and Dagenham and will do our bit to support the council in creating a cleaner greener borough for everyone. It’s about civic pride so we’ll be organising regular litter picks going forward and we hope to see you whilst we are out and about.”

Residents can find out more about community litter picking events or can carry out their own local litter picking events, borrowing everything that’s needed from the council, including litter-pickers, gloves and bags. A collection point for all the rubbish can also be arranged to make the task easier.
