BD Group serves up 16,000 school meals
The BD Group has helped deliver a staggering 16,000+ free school meals a day to schools across the borough of Barking and Dagenham since the beginning of this year.
The meals are being delivered as part of a £135m initiative devised by the Mayor of London to offset the cost-of-living crisis.
The programme will run throughout the 2023/4 academic year and it’s estimated that families will save upwards of £440 per child.
9,749 children in Barking and Dagenham are expected to benefit from the initiative.
Donna Thacker, Acting Operations Director of BD Together, the catering arm of the Group, said: “Free school meals are a lifeline for many families struggling to make ends meet and we’re happy help our local community”.
She added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have delivered this many healthy meals since the start of the academic year. It’s testament to our hard working and dedicated staff who work tirelessly across our schools.
However, despite the success, we cannot be complacent, there’s more work to do. No child should ever go hungry.”
