BD Group’s response to Covid-19

BD Group has responded quickly and pro-actively to follow and implement the latest Government advice and guidelines to mitigate and manage the risk of Covid-19 and to keep our colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers, customers and local communities safe.

We carried out Risk Assessments for all our workplaces to identify what work activity or situations might cause transmission of the virus, to assess who could be at risk, decided how likely it was that someone could be exposed and acted to remove the activity or situation, or if this wasn’t possible, controlled the risk.  We educated staff on the importance of handwashing, the wearing of face coverings and social distancing. We have taken all reasonable steps to maintain a 2m distance in the workplace, installed hand sanitisers, screens and introduced a checkerboard seating arrangement in our head office.

Before entering any homes for compliance works, repairs or maintenance, questions are asked to ensure no-one in the house currently has the virus or is displaying symptoms.  Our operatives sanitise their hands and tools before entering a property, wear face coverings when inside a property and keep 2 metres apart from residents. Teams work in bubbles to minimise transmission.

Our school catering teams have adapted their working practices to follow Government guidelines, introducing staggered serving times to ensure children only eat lunch in their year-group bubbles. They wear PPE throughout their shifts, clean all packaging on arrival, sanitising surfaces regularly throughout the day and are working in bubbles.

In addition to wearing PPE, regular hand washing and social distancing, our cleaning staff have introduced a range of anti-viral cleaning products, ensure touch points are cleaned frequently and undertake regular deep-cleans.

We are following Government advice and continuing to undertake compliance works, and building repairs and maintenance jobs for residents across Barking and Dagenham. We have fully reviewed our Risk Assessments, guidelines and working practices to ensure our stakeholders, clients and staff feel safe, and protect themselves and each other.

Covid-19 Policy Document November 2020

The information contained within this policy is continually reviewed and updated as new guidance and information is available from HM Government and Public Health England.

It is company policy that we will only undertake works in line with HM Government advice and guidance, notably,

  • Working safely during COVID-19 in construction and other outdoor work.
  • Guidance for people who work in or run offices, contact centres and similar indoor environments. The company has undertaken risk assessments to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that our activities can be undertaken in the safest means possible including travel to and from the workplace. The following measures have been put in place to assist in the safe operation of the business.
  • All personnel are advised to download the NHS test and trace app. Where a QR code is in place, personnel should scan the code to allow alerts to be sent with advice.
  • All work activities have been risk assessed with suitable and sufficient control measures put in place. The control measures are checked on a regular basis to ensure compliance.
  • Indoor workplaces have had signage put in place to remind personnel about social distancing, hand washing and sanitising.
  • Personnel who can work from home are requested to do so. The company has undertaken assessments to ensure that homeworking is undertaken as safe as possible including DSE assessments and provision of furniture so far as reasonably practicable.
  • Personnel who do need to attend work have been requested to stagger work times to avoid busy periods. The staggering of start / finish times is the responsibility of their line managers.
  • The company has invested in technology to allow meetings to be held remotely.
  • PPE has been issued to all personnel with guidance posters on the use and disposal of disposable gloves and masks prominently displayed at the work location.
  • Supplies of hand washing consumables have been increased to ensure a continuous supply.
  • Hand sanitiser (with an alcohol content of not less than 60%) is available for use at all work locations.

All personnel have been issued with and briefed on the actions to be taken if they show symptoms of Covid-19.
