BD Group is working with Barking and Dagenham Council to bring some Christmas Cheer to the borough. At the end of what has been a very challenging year for everyone, we hope to bring a smile to the residents of the borough and provide extra support to those in need.
The Council’s ‘Christmas Cheer’ campaign is about providing hope, re-connecting people who might not be able to see each other at the moment, and supporting people who need a bit of help this festive season.
BD Group is supporting this campaign through the provision of hampers for school children on free school meals for the two week Christmas school holidays. Starting on 14th December, it will be distributing over 2,600 hampers to schools across Barking and Dagenham, including to schools that it does not normally provide catering services to, ensuring children in need continue to get free healthy lunches over the festive period. Festive recipe booklets and craft kits or food vouchers will be included in the hampers. Travis Perkins Managed Services, its main building materials supplier, is kindly providing a van to help with the delivery of the hampers to schools.
BD Group is also preparing Christmas boxes to bring some Christmas Cheer to the residents of four hostels across Barking and Dagenham; Butler Court Hostel, Boundary Road Hostel, Riverside Hostel and Brocklebank Lodge, made up of donations from staff and suppliers. BD Group staff and WeFix operatives have generously donated food, toiletries and Christmas treats. Its suppliers have been very generous in supporting this campaign and BD Group would like to thank J H Cleaning Services, Global Pharma Direct, Thomas Ridley, TWO Services, Capital and our staff for their generous donations. These will be delivered on 14th December.
Tony Barry, Chief Executive of BD Group, commented, “As we come to the end of what has been a challenging year for everyone, it is heart-warming to see the community coming together to bring some much needed joy to Barking and Dagenham and to give extra help those in need. We welcome the extension of free school meals to cover the Christmas holidays and are delighted that at BD Group we have been able to play our part in helping children receive these meals, and not just to those we cater for during term time. I would like to thank everyone who has kindly donated food, gifts or their time to make this Christmas Cheer campaign a success.”
Leader of the Council, Cllr Darren Rodwell said, “This time of year is usually about getting together with family and loved ones whether you celebrate Christmas or aren’t religious at all. 2020 has been such a difficult year for people, so we wanted to make sure that we can bring that Christmas Cheer to our residents so it feels like there’s some light at the end of the tunnel. We are asking them to join us, whether that be taking part in one of the events, sharing with us how they celebrate or helping by donating something, no matter how small, towards helping our more vulnerable residents.”
